1st Grade 244 Vs Warringah 0-13
Cam won the toss and decided to have 1st use of the Weldon surface. Kirwan was 1st to go bowled playing on after the ball hit his front pad, back pad then turned at right angles and finally the bail wobbled off. We lost regular wickets around Cam and were 8-153 when Ash Vella joined Cam Watson at the crease. These 2 added a valuable 84 for the ninth wicket and in the process Cam brought up his 7th hundred for the club and is now 2nd behind Tony Ross the most hundreds for the club. Cam made 139 off 180 balls and Ash made an important 34.
We had a couple of overs at them and at the close of play they are 0-13 which sets up an interesting day next week.
2nd Grade 156 VS Warringah 4-32
Raoul won the toss and decided to have a bat Mona 1. A good start saw sundries outscore both openers and race to 1 while both openers were in the pavilion for globes. Once again Will made a start and then got out for 21. Woody made 38, JNo, 25 and Shan 28 as we were rolled for 156.
An early wicket is what we needed and it was Shan who got us off to the perfect start with AV taking a specky behind the stumps. It was MT, 1-7, and Barbon 2-11 that did some more damage to leave the game 60-40 in the Men in Greens favour. We will need to bowl and field next week to get the points and remain on top of the table.
3rd Grade 185 vs Warringah 75 & 0-13
Burto’s men came up against the top of the table Green Men. Burto won the toss and had no hesitation in having a bowl with probably one of the quickest 3rd grade attacks ever assembled at Auburn. Cooky in his return from injury took 2-7 off 6, Szades 3-13, Moose 1-13, who apparently was a bit star struck at the fact he was playing with Cooky, but it was Party Boy Mitch Wakeford who did all the damage taking 4-18.
We lost Stillman and Tony Ross early but it was Dewahs and CNo that saw us nearly past the total. Dewahs smoked 48 in no time at all including 9 boundaries. CNo made 17. We lost some wickets chasing quick runs but Burto made 41, and Flash continued his good form with the bat scoring 28.
We had a bit of a bowl but failed to pick any early ones. But the chase for 10 points will definitely be on next week
4th Grade 235 VS Warringah 1-46
JJ won the toss and decided to have 1st use of a good Princes Park deck. Boods made batting look easy early on hitting six in the 3rd over. Boods scored a run a ball 21, before he hit a full toss to the only man in front of square on the leg side. Then no one really got going and soon we were 5-65. JJ scored 22 hitting 5 boundaries putting on 35 with John Affleck to get the score to 100 before he chased a wide one. Pete was out not long after skying the 1st ball he faced from the spinner. Yours truly put on 54 with JA but it was John that did all the scoring as I struggled to hit the ball off the square. Steve Duhigg batted well and put another 58 with John, before he decided to run down the wicket top the spinner, he made 28 with one massive 6 down the ground. But the day belonged to John Affleck who made a crucial 97 to see us get to a defendable total.
We had 21 overs to bowl to them and all bowlers bowled extremely tight ant it was Pete Ananin who dismissed one of the opposition danger men, and also picking up his 1st wicket for the club.
We were probably 100 runs short of what we need to be but the game is there to be one if we bowl and field well.
5th Grade 6-36 VS Mac Uni
Not much to report here. We batted and we were 6-36 before rain stopped play. Tabrett from the other side took 5-10. Apparently it was pretty hard batting conditions. Don’t really no who scored runs for us. Anyone from 5’s want to shed some light feel free to drop me a line at andrewbaker@auburncricket.com.
ASK BURTO
Burto,
With all the rain that has been about lately, could you run the lads through exactly how the Duckworth-Lewis system works?
Frank Duckworth & Tony Lewis
England
Ummmm, no. But I think you have to take into account the number of drinks Szady says he has had divided by the actual number of drinks he has had, multiply that by the number of times Moose says “Shane Cook” in a day, add the number of sausage rolls Bakes has during the game, minus the distance Nathan Ross throws his bat when dismissed. This number is then added to the number of litres of petrol Ned uses to get to the game and finally divided by the number of guys who take off before the covers etc. are properly put away after the game to give us a target. Of course, I could be wrong, but I googled and read it and this actually makes more sense than the real calculations.
Awards Update
AV Big Pads
Big movements this week, with Shires cricket’s most popular player Andy Baker moving into the lead with 4
Still on 3, we have Jamie Heywood, Trent Miller, Tim Affleck and Dave Wood. On a side note it was equal leader Trent Miller that fired Bakes. Good job Trent.
Raoul Red Inks
A
quiet week, with Pottsy clinging to the lead with 4 from 4, Raoul now 4 from 6
(with his 2nd consecutive globe ruining his red ink average) and JA
still 3 from 4.
Rouillo Average
With
Sheargold down in Melbourne, he hasn’t had a chance to improve this (or get a
globe and get off this table), so he still leads with 7.2, Mark Freeburn is 2nd
on 10.5, then Trent Miller 14.14, then AV making a move on 14.8.
Fantasy League
Very tight at the top, with only 2.1 points separating the top 3, and plenty more still in the hunt. It only takes 1 good performance from one of your players to shake up the standings. Kirwan proving that spending less really doesn’t mean you get a better side (surprisingly) and bringing up the tail.
