Guess who’s back? Back again? The Crow is back tell a friend… Crow is back, Crow is back, Crow is back.
Wow how exciting it was waking up on a Saturday morning and having the prospect of playing this wonderful summer game that way love Cricket.
We took on the might of the Briars this round in what is shaping as a crucial round in the chase for Dave Tribolet.
The stand out performers for the round was Mark Freeburns 77 in 4’s and Mitch Wakefords 4-39 in 3’s and 3-20 in 24s.
1st Grade 158 vs Burwood 2/60
1st grade were at the road that is Rothwell this week and Cam won the toss and decided to have 1st use of the deck. However, it was only Cam, 41, Donno and Greentree 27, that showed any resistance as we were bundled out for 158.
Early wickets were what we needed but alas Burwood made it to 60 for the loss of 2 wickets with Kirwan taking both scalps. We will need to bowl real well next week to get the 6 points and stay in contention for the finals
2nd Grade 3/9 vs Burwood 228
Raoul won yet another toss and decided to let Burwood have 1st use of George Parry. Ijaz and The ginger ninja Charlie bowled early without luck and it was the introduction of the skipper that brought about the break through and it wasn’t long after that the Briars were 3/61. Tim bowled a good spell of leggies and was unlucky to end up with only the one wicket. Will, Bruce and Charlie all picked up one a piece, with the Growler taking 3/11 and Ijaz taking 3/38 to be the pick of the bowlers.
8 overs to face and survival was the name of the game however it wasn’t to be with DB, MT and Bula all back in the sheds with only 9 runs on the board, and a massive hill for 2’s to climb to keep their unbeaten run going.
3rd Grade 0/28 Vs Burwood 177
Burwood won the toss and decided they would have 1st use of the flat St lukes deck. Burto and Moose bowled extremely well with the only real scoring shots coming behind square. Moose picked up the opener with a low full toss, and the introduction of “Dirk Diggler” Wakeford saw the match swing our way with a good catch to Tony at second slip. Mitch then bowled their number 3 and Flash got the skipper to play on and we had them in a bit of trouble at 3/40. Mitch then had another trapped plumb and we were right on top going into tea at 5/70. Some good partnerships and some aggressive, suicidal running and some lusty hitting saw Burwood get to 177. With Mitch being the pick taking 4, Moose 2, me and flash one a piece, 2 run outs and probably one of the unluckiest spells of bowling from the skipper saw him go wicketless.
Nandana and Guy saw us to stumps to have us in a good spot at 0-28 with plenty of work to do against a good bowling attack
4th Grade 338 VS Burwood 0/49
Burwood won the toss and decided to have a bowl on the flattest looking Dave Tribolet wicket this year. We lost Boods early but Trent Miller and Cottsy punished anything loose racing along to 106 before Tret was caught for 57. We lost Cotts soon after for 52. From then on it was young Mark Freeburn who stole the show scoring an impressive 77 including 12 boundaries. Nath Ross made 41 before being fired LBW by Trent. No you no Rossy how it feels when you get fired and you aren’t out. 31 from the skipper to keep his good season going and a quick 23 from Sneaky Pete saw us all out for 338 with still 18 overs to bowl.
Some early wickets would have been handy but with 338 on the board you would be confident of defending that total. But some good batting from Burwood could very well see them chase down the total. We will have to be on our game from ball one next week.
5th Grade 9/216 beat Lane Cove 7/215
In what appears to be a cracker of a game it’s a shame I cant do it justice. From what I can tell JA got us across the line 9 down with 4 balls to spare. With the ball it was Wayne Moore 2-28, Brad Stone 2-37 and Stevey D who picked up the wickets. With the bat it was the Colonel Sanders with 64, French with 24 and Wayne and Ananin 20 apiece.
Under 24’s 6/86 beat Southern Districts 85
Sd’s won the toss and decided to have a bat. Some good early bowling from Cooky and Charlie kept things tight and SD’s were unable to get any momentum going. The introduction of Stevens and Wakeford swung things our way with Mitch taking 3 big scalps with a screamer of a catch to Stillman being the higtlight. Flash and Ash cleaned up the tail and both picked up 2 a piece. MT, Charlie and Stevo all got one apiece.
We collaspsed early but a good partnership from Flash Gordon, 18, and Michael Stevens, 30*, saw us get across the line with 4 wickets in hand. A good 1st up win for Cooky as captain.
Burto’s Bit
It’s been a bit quiet with all the washouts etc., but we’re back!!
There’s been some movements in the various tables and at the moment it looks like Sheargold might “run away” with the average award. Big Pads is getting tight and there will no doubt be some nervous looks when a few of these guys get hit on the pads.

SUNDRIES
The Frank Gray u/24’s side had a great win in their Qualifying Final at the weekend. They now host Roseville in the Semi at George Parry next Sunday 24/02/08. Let’s get a good crowd down there from 10am to support the boys.
We’re still currently in front in the Club Championship and Ground of the Year. Let’s work hard and win both these illustrious awards. On top of that, all sides are in the top 6 & the u/24’s are in the semi rounding out a superb year for the club thus far. Let’s work together to keep it up to the end and the rewards will come.
Let’s finish the Burwood round strongly on day 2 and get down to support the 24’s on Sunday. Most of all, remember to have fun, it’s just a game!
